Spalted Maple Slab Table

Sourcing lumber is perhaps the single most important and challenging aspect of fine furniture making. No matter how skillfully you mill, shape, and finish your pieces, the result will be limited by the material at hand.

This maple slab, harvested and kiln-dried locally in Poulsbo, WA, is one of the most beautiful pieces of wood I have ever come across.

The edges have been hand-sanded to preserve the natural patterns and textures lining the slab, and gaps filled with tinted resin. The base is made of black walnut and is at coffee-table height, but can be made taller on request.
