Spalted Birch Jewelry Box
Taken from a single slab of birch, this jewelry box exemplifies how even a small section of a single tree can be bursting with character. The lid is from the crotch of the tree, where two branches split off and ‘compete’ for growth, resulting in the shimmering pattern shown on the lid.
The dividers were taken from the edges of the slab with bark still intact. And in the center of it all is a great wave of spalt surrounding a knot in the wood, reminiscent of a Hokusai painting.
